What Is a 5-Post Cat Tree Built For?
Five posts fit giant breeds. They sleep in a cat tree in two baskets next to each other, and an oversized five-post top bed helps when a wider heavy base is far better than a taller base.
Petite cats curl up tight. Owners with three cats at a healthy weight all around 10-11lbs see that they all use it all the time, and one of them climbs up to the top on the tallest pole and it doesn’t fall over – barely wobbles.
What Is the Floor Space and Box Weight Tradeoff?
Wide beds need heavy boxes. If you know your cat is small and lightweight, you will be less concerned around things like the size of the base or the size of the platforms.
The carpet underneath the base makes it wobbly. A 22-pounder is always testing the limits of the cat trees, and our 83-inch five-post tower helps when the whole thing is built around a wider base so it’s not tipping over on you. It should be easy to get from one level to the next, and box weight includes the carton since it depends on how solid they are and how much they weigh.
Which 2-Post or 4-Post Tree Fits a Small Cat Better?
Most standard cat trees seem too flimsy or small. You look for a tower with a wide base to avoid tipping, and something that won’t wobble or fall apart in a few months. The base is big enough, it looks very sturdy, and there are big, high platforms, and a two-post deep metal basket helps when they have several cat trees, scratch posts, treats and so many toys for them.
The cats like to bat at the sisal rope. Some households have to have at least four of things like window perches and scratching posts, the favorite beds and boxes, and a mountain of the preferred catnip toys. Many owners have a cat tree that’s connected by screwing cylinders of wood to the base and platforms of the tree, and for some of the screws washers are also provided to tighten up the tree.
There is also a cat condo in every room. Renters in a very small apartment often don’t have room for a huge cat tree, and they love that spot or the little basket at the top because the sisal rope and carpet are both appealing for scratching.
When Should Small-Cat Owners Still Pick a 5-Post Tree?
A cat likes to sleep stretched out quite often. Two average sized cats can comfortably play on it together, while an oversized five-post top bed works well since kitties love curling up in the round basket style hammocks on their cat trees.
Some senior cats are much more spry than others. You don’t need to have your cat tree double as a scratch post, while our 83-inch five-post tower works well since the rest of the scratching tree is still in a quite okay shape.
